Many professional women of today exclaim with pride, “I can have it all!” Yet, having it all requires a balance of work and family life.
Studies have shown that research-intensive jobs (often found within the sciences) are considered among the least family friendly careers choices. Where the difficulty lies is that research and fieldwork are a major aspect of success in math and science fields in particular, and career success is limited without this experience.
Females find themselves in situations where they are very limited in professions within the math and science related fields. As indicated in a 2012 female ecologist study, male ecologists can perform a lot of fieldwork because their spouses are with the children, whereas female ecologists do not have this same luxury.
